–– For SQUEEZE IT young, under 30, European artists create an original small scale theatre/action project which is on the boundary between theatre, visual arts and new media. The biennial competition is dedicated to Franco Jesurun, a man of culture, theatre-actor and art-dealer, founder of the three cultural organisations in Trieste that promote the competition. It was established 2014, as part of the 40the anniversary of the foundation of Studio Tommaseo. The 2016 judges are: Roberto Canziani, Branko Franceschi, Emanuela Marassi, Alessandro Marinuzzi, Dalibor Martinis, Chiara Tomasi and Janka Vukmir.
–– The SQUEEZE IT 2016 competition accepted registration until the 16th October from students and young professionals born in EU countries, countries of the Central European Initiative (C.E.I.), Kosovo and Turkey. It is ORGANISED by Studio Tommaseo, The Officina cultural association and the Trieste Contemporanea Committee, in PARTNERSHIP with the C.E.I. Secretariat in Trieste, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Rijeka, UGM-Maribor Art Gallery, Institute for Contemporary Art of Zagreb, ArtSpace of Gorizzo and Patagonia Art and ACM of Venice. The initiative has been realised with the FUNDING of the Autonomous Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Council, with the PATRONAGE of the C.E.I., of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Council, Trieste Provincial Council and the Trieste Town Council and with the SPECIAL PARTICIPATION of ERPAC, Regional promotion, enhancement and development service – Villa Manin of Passariano and regional contemporary art gallery Luigi Spazzapan of Gradisca d’Isonzo, and PromoTurismoFVG. It also benefitted from the COLLABORATION of the network Continental Breakfast, of the ICA-Institute of Contemporary Art of Sofia and of Ludwig Museum-Museum of Contemporary Art of Budapest.
–– The winner of the Squeeze it Online 2016 Award is Neža Agnes Momirski (Slovenia/the Netherlands): her video-clip, from those theatre-actions clips put-forward for the semi-final online vote, has received the highest number of online likes.
The three finalists Ruggero Franceschini (Italy), Bastien Poncelet (Belgium) and Marc Vilanova Pinyol (Spain) will compete on 18th December in front of a live audience for the Franco Jesurun 2016 Award, performing the theatrical pieces they created for competition. The award foresees a video production workshop of the winner’s piece with an important international artist – in 2014 Adrian Paci worked with the winning group, Komična Hunta; this year the guest director will be Dalibor Martinis.
For all four finalists, there will also be organised a training workshop that will take place in the regional territory before the final evening, in various locations and with various experts belonging to the three disciplines that characterise the originality of the cross-sector approach of this competition.
Beside the final evening in Trieste, special events open to the public are organised in Gradisca d’Isonzo (a debate, on the topic: The cross-sector professionalisms in cultural Production. What experiences and perspectives? and a video exhibition) and at Villa Manin of Passariano (Dalibor Martinis in conversation with Branko Franceschi)

Panopticon

The Panopticon project is an attempt to highlight the physical links between the individual, communication/surveillance tools and other human beings. Man was once limited by the distances he could cover on foot. Today, his limit is the number of electric sockets or the quality of the WiFi connection. Music from I Follow Rivers by Lykke Li, 2011.
Ruggero Franceschini (1992) studied acting at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan with Luca Ronconi and graduated in Modern Literature at the University of Milan. He performs in various productions of the Piccolo Teatro of Milan, the CSS Teatro del FVG, and Eunemesi – European Art Company. He conducts his artistic research between Italy and Poland and explores language and socio-political issues, through shows and performances.
Thymélé I –– by Bastien Poncelet, Belgium
A performance for two characters, one empty space, one loud vacuum cleaner, one shiny dress, some written sentences, and the German version of Where Have All the Flowers Gone? (by P. Seeger and J. Hickerson, 1956). The protagonists are both absorbed by their every day life monoaction: one iscleaning the space, the other one is dancing.
Bastien Poncelet (1992) after studying theatre and dance graduated from La Cambre, Brussels in set design in 2016. Since 2015, he has lived in Paris where has worked for: an event set design office; the artist Marguerite Humeau on her exhibition at Palais de Tokyo; and with the theater company Théâtre et Réconciliation as the graphic designer of their posters.
Alejandro Flores Mora (1990) the second character in the performance, he studied contemporary dance at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. He is currently working for La Zouze in Marseille with Cie Christophe Haleb and lives in Paris where he is creating his own performance company.
EGUES –– by Marc Vilanova Pinyol, Spain
EGUES aims to present powerful visual experimental performance using lights inside and outside the instrument as well as gesture and presence throughout the whole piece. Extensively using these techniques on the instrument, anew language is created, a new vocabulary that creates new dialogues and connections between the lights and sounds and is capable of transporting the imagination of the audience to far off realms.
Marc Vilanova Pinyol (1991) performs in many art forms, including electroacoustic music, free improvisation, contemporary repertoire and collaboration with dancers. Currently his work focuses on presenting experimental music in a powerful visual way.

What are we terrors to one another by Neža Agnes Momirski, Slovenia / the Netherlands
The choreography of the performance re-examines the contemporary intertwining of technology, body and identity, and is constructed with the mythological poetry of William Blake in mind, which describes the separation and unity in the male-female relationship. Blake describes a happy couple as androgynous, but their unhappiness occurs when one or the other identifies as a sexual being.
Neža Agnes Momirski with MA from the Royal College of Art (London, 2014) is based in Rotterdam and Ljubljana. She is currently the recipient of the Mondriaan Fonds Young
Talent Award in Amsterdam. Her work is concerned with the relationship between the body, technology and the self, and with interpersonal interaction within virtual and physical spaces.
