Trieste Contemporanea organizes a three-part event which includes a projection of the video “present” by Isabella Pers, a presentation of the project “the Power of Partnership” by Antonella Riem and a discussion about the book, “Environmental Crisis and Forced Migration” by Salvatore Altiero and Maria Marano.
The event is curated by ALL (Association of Graduates in Foreign Language and Literature of the University of Udine), in collaboration with RAVE East Village Artist Residency, with the support of the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia.
“Present”
The video by Isabella Pers is made at the international conference, “The Real Wealth of Nations” organised by ALL (Association of Graduates in Foreign Language and Literature of the University of Udine), in collaboration with the Vicino/Lontano Terzani Prize and Vulcano Agency: a contemporary production unit. The film takes place in Redipuglia at the “Dolina dei Cinquecento” (“Sinkhole of the Five Hundred Fallen Soldiers”) which is a place of high elevation on the Karst border. It is a moment for sharing stories and memories among witnesses of exoduses and wars from different times and places: PRESENT as a ‘gift’—the sharing of personal life experiences—and as ‘presence’—a transformative energy born of spiritual journeys and words of healing.
“The Power of Partnership”
The project by Antonella Riem is organized by ALL (Association of Graduates in Foreign Language and Literature of the University of Udine), in collaboration with RAVE and the support of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The project starts with a reflection on the book, “The Power of Partnership. Seven Relationships that Will Change Your Life” by Riane Eisler (1916) and consists of a series of presentations, workshops, readings, performances and seminars that focus on the themes of support for political and environmental migrants, the relationships between humans and the environment, and intercultural education. The aims are to facilitate the collaboration between diverse cultures, to develop new professional roles in cultural mediation and reframe education through intercultural and dialogic lenses.
“Environmental Crisis and Forced Migrations: The Silent Wave Beyond Fortress Europe” is a collection of data and a political-legal reflection on the topic of migration by Salvatore Altiero and Maria Marano and published by A Sud Association with CDCA Documentation Centre on Environmental Conflicts. The work analyses current migratory waves and their differentiations, i.e. internal/external and environmental migrations generated by violence and natural disasters. It explores how human-made factors can determine balances and imbalances of ecosystems, acting on the natural forces and flow regulators. Space is also given to the stories of migrants.
