For the twenty-second Giornata del Contemporaneo, Trieste Contemporanea presents a screening and discussion on Saturday 10 October at 6 p.m. of a selection of films assembled by George Maciunas between 1962 and 1970 for his celebrated “Fluxfilm” anthology. The collection comprises 37 short films, ranging in length from 10 seconds to 10 minutes, made by international artists associated with the Fluxus movement, including Maciunas himself, George Brecht, Dick Higgins, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Ben Vautier, Wolf Vostell and Robert Watts and others.
Fluxus was an international art movement founded by the Lithuanian-born, naturalised American artist George Maciunas (1931–1978). “It was not a defined group but a movement open to collaboration among artists […] involved in artistic experiments marked by the greatest freedom of expression, interdisciplinarity and the use of multiple media, a break with every form of traditional formalization, and a very close relationship between art and life” (Martina Corgnati).
