Beginning with the opening of the first of three exhibitions at Studio Tommaseo in Trieste, on Saturday the 12 of January Trieste Contemporanea and ArtSpace, with the support of the Regione autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia, publicly open the project THE SEARCH FOR IDENTITY (AT THE TIME OF SELFIE), curators Giuliana Carbi Jesurun and Gabriella Cardazzo, and running until February 22, 2019.
Involving 30 visual artists, musicians, actors, dancers, writers and philosophers from BOSNIA, CROATIA, FRANCE, ITALY, LEBANON, POLAND, UNITED KINGDOM and UKRAINE, the initiative consists of 3 exhibitions (which will inaugurate respectively on January 12, January 26 and February 9), and 1 round table (February 16). Mixed media wall-pieces, drawings, photographs, installations, 1 video, 1 film, 1 musical composition, 3 performances, 3 conversations with the artists and the final round table will investigate the different interpretations that today are given to identity. They will range from a “classic” search of interiority to the very recent “fluidity of appearing” disseminated through digital devices. They will touch different perceptions and sensory skills. In the project’s exhibitions also a multilingual soundtrack of contributions on identity’s meaning will be presented: a voiced thread of the whole initiative, unusual compared to the representation of ourselves that is offered to us by our images.
