The exhibition ‘À la frontière. Old and New Bordersin Europe’ crosses another border and arrives to Lithuania, at the Šv. Jono Gatvės Galerija in Vilnius. On display musical and visual artworks by Krzysztof Czyżewski, Wiesław Szumiński & Kuba Kossak, Grzegorz Dąbrowski, Leon Tarasewicz, Karolina Cicha (Poland), Laure Keyrouz & Angelo Ricciardi (Lebanon and Italy), Samir Mehanović (Bosnia), Lada Nakonechna (Ukraine), Arturas Valiauga (Lithuania), Tomáš Rafa (Slovakia), Predrag Marić (Croatia), and Giovanni Floreani (Italy). The words ‘border’ and ‘borderline’ have many meanings. For most West Europeans, the word used to mean the symbolicline which separated them for a long time from the East. Now, real borders are being built in New Europe, separating it from refugees struggling to escape the disasters of war. The works presented in theexhibition open up complicated layers of cultural identity, explore real and virtual borders between East and West, and motivate us to acknowledge them and encourage us to overcome them.
